Exploring the Enchantment of Bahia Magdalena

We set off from Bahia Santa Maria around 10:00 on November 13, surrounded by a thick curtain of fog. By 11, the fog began to lift, revealing a beautiful day as we made our way to Mag Bay. Along our 33 nautical mile journey, we were delighted to spot flying rays, humpback whales, and dolphins. Alex made the day even more memorable by catching a stunning 26-pound yellowtail, a true treat for the palate. We motored into the large bay and anchored alongside SV Oatmeal Savage, SV Pacific Wren, and SV Taj in Puerto Magdalena aka Man of War Cove just before 15:00.

A Journey Through Mangroves

Discovering the Hidden Gems of Man of War Cove

We had the most incredible two days visiting Mag Bay, immersing ourselves in the unique allure of this charming little fishing town.

We set out to explore the winding waterways of the nearby mangroves in our dinghy, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and the calming sounds of nature. Navigating the tricky sand bar to access the mangroves presented its own challenges, but every moment was worth the effort as we enjoyed peaceful moments that allowed us to relax and reflect on our adventure.

The rest of our time was spent wandering through the town and savoring happy hour at the local restaurant with friends, creating memories that we will cherish for a lifetime.

Bahia Magdalena

Magdalena Bay is a 50 km (31 mi) long bay in the Comondú Municipality along the western coast of Baja California Sur.  It is protected from the Pacific Ocean by the unpopulated sandy barrier islands of Isla Magdalena and Isla Santa Margarita.

Man of War Cove (Puerto Magdalena) is the perfect spot to kick back and soak in the beauty of the bright turquoise waters and soft sandy beaches, making it a great place to check out all that Magdalena Bay has to offer, where the waves gently lap at the shore and colorful marine life is just waiting to be discovered, providing a chill escape for anyone who loves nature or seeks a bit of adventure.

Nowadays, Bahia Magdalena proudly showcases the resilience and spirit of its community, welcoming campers and divers to enjoy fantastic glamping experiences right by the beautiful coastline. With its diverse wildlife and stunning natural views, it’s no wonder that visitors from all over are eager to come and experience this incredible blend of rich history and breathtaking scenery.
