Reuniting in Mexico: A Journey of Family and Adventure

After months apart, the boys finally joined us in the beautiful city of La Paz, Mexico. The excitement was palpable as we anticipated their arrival, eager to share the wonders of our journey with them. Our reunion marked a new chapter in our sailing adventure, filled with love, laughter and shared memories.

A Whirlwind Visit

I set off from the anchorage on December 10th just as dawn broke around 6 AM, filled with anticipation to reunite with Logan and Cash in Vancouver. Alex kindly remained behind to oversee the boat, as leaving it unattended in the harbor is unwise due to the strong currents and the regular occurrence of the anchored boats performing the ‘La Paz Waltz’. After catching the bus, I reached Los Cabo airport about three hours later, enjoying a picturesque ride through quaint villages.  As soon as I touched down in Vancouver, I was greeted by a brisk change in temperature under clear skies. My mom welcomed me at the airport, and we spent a wonderful evening reconnecting. The following day was packed with joyful family moments, festive holiday shopping, and dinner with friends, all culminating in my trip back to the airport with Logan and Cash for our flight to La Paz, a whirlwind journey that took me to Vancouver and back in under 72 hours.

Alex’s Excellent Adventure

We had quite an adventure with Alex renting a car to pick us up from the airport after our haul from Vancouver. He mistakenly asked for directions to Cabo San Lucas instead of Los Cabo, both international airports, which caused a bit of confusion. Upon realizing his error, he found that the airports were only 40 minutes apart, which was fortunate. With a closed bridge in the way, he skillfully navigated a sandy riverbed before getting back on track using Google Maps. Customs proved to be slow, and an unfriendly agent scrutinized the solar panels I was bringing, further delaying our exit, making Alex’s late arrival timely. Remarkably, Alex completed the journey with just one scratched rim.

One Last Night with Derek in La Paz

We gathered for one last evening with Derek before our paths diverged, filled with fun, amazing food and a very lit and vibrant parade. The malecón came alive that night, punctuated by a surprise visit from Santa. A heartfelt thank you to Derek for the delightful dinner and drinks—it truly was a memorable night.

Prepping for our Island Adventures

After an early morning and long flight on December 12 from Vancouver to La Paz, we made a delightful pit stop in Todos Santos for lunch on the drive to La Paz. Such a charming town with incredible food at the restaurant. Cash chose the grilled octopus to our surprise 🐙 The next day, we eagerly took Logan and Cash on a tour of La Paz, enjoying leisurely strolls along the vibrant malecón, visits to the ice cream parlour, exploring local shops, uncovering the unique treasures of the markets, and gathering supplies for our boat. This preparation was all in anticipation of an exciting week of adventures on the breathtaking nearby islands of Espíritu Santos and Partida, where a wealth of new experiences awaited us.
