From Jedediah to Gambier

Sunsets, Reunions, and the Home Stretch

After waiting out weather anchored off Denman Island, the winds finally turned in our favor. We seized the moment, hoisted anchor, and set our course for Jedediah Island—our first visit, and it was pure magic from the moment we arrived. We spent the day bushwhacking and hiking 13.5 km of meandering trails, rocky headlands, and open meadows in search of the island’s elusive sheep and goats. They stayed hidden, but the exploring was its own reward.

Our time at Jedediah was slow and sweet—sunshine, warm water, and no reason to be anywhere else. Eventually, though, the anchor came up and we headed south, dropping it just off the sandbar at Roberts Creek. Paddleboards made the perfect “taxi” to shore, where an afternoon BBQ with Alexandra and the gang served up laughs, good food, and an unbeatable ocean view.

After a perfect few hours catching up, we made tracks before dark, aiming for Plumper Cove. We slid in just as the light faded and reunited with Jon & Jean on SV Selene. The next day, we hiked more than 10 km around Keats Island, then wandered down to the beach near Russ & Noni’s cabin for another long-overdue catch-up while the boys swam in the summer sun. This stretch of the trip has been one long reunion, and our hearts are full.

That evening we pushed on to West Beach for happy hour, the sky exploding with color as the sun sank low. The swell nudged us to move along to Port Graves for the night, where the water was calm and sleep came easy.

Morning brought sunshine and one last Gambier adventure—dragging the boys up to Lost Lake for a hike and fresh water swim. Salty and sun-kissed, it’s hard to believe this year-long trip is nearly over.

Tomorrow, we’ll lift anchor from Port Graves and make one final stop at Jericho Beach for a swim before pulling into our slip at Heather Civic Marina—back where it all began.
