Exploring La Paz with Friends

After two wonderful weeks exploring the breathtaking Sea of Cortez with Logan and Cash, we made our way back to La Paz on January 2nd to catch up with some friends.

Our Visit with Marc & Dorothy

We had a wonderful day wandering through the lively streets and bustling markets of La Paz. Our visit wouldn’t have been complete without a leisurely stroll through the expansive three-story Sears department store while reconnecting with Marc and Dorothy – it was like taking a step back in time.

Thanks to Marc’s generosity, the next morning we were able to stock up on supplies for the boat; he kindly drove us around town in their rental car, making it possible for us to collect larger and heavier items that we had been postponing due to our limited transportation options.

Beach Day at Puerto Balandra

We had a fantastic day anchored at Puerto Balandra, soaking in the sun and the tranquil beach vibes. Since vehicle access at Balandra was limited, Marc and Dorothy parked their rental at Playa Pichilingue, and Alex picked them up in the dinghy, traveling about 12 nautical miles to bring them back to the beach. After a wonderful day on the water, we all returned to Playa Pichilingue aboard SV Inscrutable as the sun dipped below the horizon, enjoying a delightful dinner on the boat before bidding farewell and parting ways. We anchored for the night and set off for Espíritu Santo with the kids the following morning, eager for more island adventures.

Night-time Marine Adventure at Playa Pichilingue

After we dropped off Marc and Dorothy at Playa Pichilingue, we eagerly grabbed our spotlights and embarked on an exhilarating night-time dinghy adventure, exploring the dark waters for captivating marine life illuminated by our lights. We enjoyed an unforgettable experience tracking rays, puffer fish, sea worms, and more under the starry sky.

Puerto Balandra & Playa Pichilingue

Puerto Balandra is an amazing natural harbor on the southern coast of Baja California Sur, famous for its stunning white sand beaches that are perfect for a lazy walk or a fun game of bocce. The southern bay is home to a lively rocky reef that’s just right for snorkeling, and if you’re into hiking, there are plenty of trails that lead up the hills, giving you fantastic views of this beautiful spot.

Playa Pichilingue, situated just 9 nautical miles north of La Paz, boasts stunning stretches of fine white sand and inviting turquoise waters, making it an idyllic getaway for locals seeking relaxation and recreation. This beautiful beach transforms into a vibrant swimming haven during the weekends.
