Mag Bay to Cabo San Lucas
We had a great couple of days sailing from Bahia Magdalena to Cabo San Lucas, and to make it even more interesting, we had two surprise guests (Truth & Sue) who needed a ride to Cabo.
We kicked things off around 0800 on November 15 after an awesome snorkel in the clear waters at Mag Bay’s entrance – even spotted a sea turtle napping on the ocean floor; we might have startled it a bit because as we got closer, it took off, and wow, they are faster than we thought.
Once we were out of the bay and the wind was right, we hoisted both sails and enjoyed watching the sea life jump around us as the breeze propelled us towards our destination. The wind was moderate, blowing at 15-25 knots in a steady downwind direction the whole way, which meant we hardly had to adjust the sails at all.
As the sun began to set, we took down the main sail and kept going overnight with just the forward sail. Lowering the main sail at night makes for a more relaxed overnight as nobody wants to be scrambling on top of the pilot house in the dark fixing any snags.
Our passage was 181 NM and we averaged 6kts per hour, speeding through the water hitting 8kts at points along the way.
We encountered the warmest sea temperature of our adventure thus far, situated approx 35 nautical miles off the coast of Punta Lobos in Todos Santos, with a reading of 26.8 degrees Celsius.

Arrival in Cabo San Lucas
The Vibrant Heart of Cabo
Arriving in Cabo San Lucas was a feast for the senses. The iconic arch stood majestically against the backdrop of a bustling bay filled with jet skis, party boats, and lively bars. There was even a boat on fire adding to the excitement. The atmosphere was electric, with fireworks lighting up the night sky, marking our arrival in this vibrant city.

Our arrival in Cabo San Lucas couldn’t have been more perfectly timed. After a thrilling journey from Bahia Magdalena, we found ourselves running low on provisions. The bustling markets and well-stocked stores of Cabo provided the perfect opportunity to replenish our supplies, ensuring we were well-prepared for the next leg of our adventure.
