Foggy Cove, Alaska

Sailing Alaska: A Sunny Farewell

Our final night in Alaska was spent in Foggy Cove—a fittingly dramatic name for a place that ended up being anything but. As we dropped anchor and looked around, it felt like we’d accidentally sailed into a slice of Mexico—turquoise waters, sun on our faces, and clear blue skies overhead. But don’t be fooled—while it looked tropical, the water was still icy cold, and the air had that crisp northern bite that reminds you exactly where you are. Flip-flops stayed below deck.

We spent the afternoon cruising around in the dinghy, weaving between the nearby islets, watching seals bob in and out of the water, and soaking up the peaceful stillness of it all. It was quiet, remote, and absolutely stunning—Alaska showing off one last time before we crossed the border.

As we sat in the cockpit that evening, bundled up in jackets and sipping our nightcap, we couldn’t help but reflect on just how special this leg of the journey has been. Alaska has offered up raw, untamed beauty at every turn—surprise wildlife encounters, serene anchorages, incredible hot springs, and awe-inspiring glaciers. From bears wandering the shoreline and eagles soaring overhead to the majestic sight of whales surfacing near the boat, it’s been a nonstop reel of unforgettable moments. Foggy Cove felt like the perfect final page in our Alaskan chapter.

We’re feeling grateful—grateful for the weather windows that lined up, the quiet bays that welcomed us, and the opportunity to explore this wild and magical corner of the world. Out of all the places we’ve visited during this year-long sailing trip, Alaska has carved out a special place in our hearts.

Next stop: Canadian waters. But for now, we’re carrying this moment—and all of Alaska—with us.
